Fabulous shots of Summer Party
Amazing photos by Brian Secrett
Dear Friend,
Despite it raining cats and dogs on Saturday morning and a deep sense of sadness that this could be our last Summer Party, we decided the show must go on.
We changed our plans so that there were fewer gazebos than usual - we nearly drowned putting them up. The bands and the Pimm’s “tent” started in the studio but by about 2.30pm, the sun began to peep through the clouds and we moved the band and the Pimm’s out of the studio. Gradually people began to come in wellies and macs but as the day wore on, sun hats and sun glasses were definitely needed.
The bands Don’t Tell Smith and UKewlele kept spirits high and and two local children gave a lovely performance. Quite a lot of Pimm’s was consumed! It was really wonderful for us to see so many people who have given us such support over the years and in particular, over the past few months.
Some of you had helped plant the trees in the field back in the 90’s. We received some amazing compliments about the hedge and the pond from a supporter who works at the Natural History Museum and specialises in hedges and ponds. Bob Gingell, who manages our work programmes, could not be with us on the day but his ears must have been burning! He spends so much time keeping that hedge in fine fettle.
The photos take by Brian Secrett are amazing both of humans and flora and fauna - so if you were there, you may be able to spot yourself in the gallery below.
We have just heard from the Council in response to our lawyer’s letter. We need some time to consider next steps but we will keep you posted.
Thank you so much if you braved the weather on Saturday and we know that many of you would have come if you had been free.
Kind Regards,
Sarah
