Friends’ Tea Party

Friends of Pensford Field listen to Lord Darroch’s views on issues of the day.

On Sunday 24 September, we had a tea party for Friends of Pensford Field. Dulcet tunes were provided by Don’t Tell Smith who played relaxed jazz and blues. The weather held - a few spots of rain earlier in the day but it was warm if a bit breezy. This is an event just for Friends so we were pleased to welcome about 40 guests - we have larger turnouts for our summer party and wassail - but this was a more intimate occasion with time to speak to people who have supported Pensford Field, in some cases over many years.

We had one guest who came from Stratford just for the tea party - she remembers the field very fondly from the 50’s when as a girl, she lived in Pensford Avenue and met her life long friend and bridesmaid in the field when they were both 6 years old.

We listened to local resident, Lord Darroch, talk about his experiences - he was the British Ambassador to the USA in 2016-19 but prior to this he was the PM’s National Security Adviser and held various other positions putting him at the heart of world events. We talked about the American elections, the war in Ukraine and his experiences as ambassador.

A great deal of tea and cake was consumed!
